Causes and consequences of postponing retirement

Session of the 2025 "Amb Ulls UPF" series

Longer life expectancy and demographic changes are reshaping pension systems and the traditional concept of retirement. To reflect on this issue, Pompeu Fabra University is organising a new session of the 2025 Amb Ulls UPF series, focused on the economic and social implications of postponing the retirement age.

The session will feature:

• Sergi Jiménez is a professor at the Department of Economics and Business at UPF and a researcher in public policy.

• Josep Mestres is an economist at the Spain Unit of CaixaBank Research and a UPF alumni.

Moderated by Olma Giró, journalist at 3Cat and UPF Journalism alumni, the discussion will explore the main challenges of ensuring the sustainability of the pension system and the broader impact of delayed retirement on the labour market and society.
