ECOTOPIA
ECOTOPIA is a unique undergraduate programme developed by seven of the ten universities that make up EUTOPIA, an alliance committed to building the university of the future with the 2030 goal of becoming a federation of open, multicultural, interconnected campuses.
ECOTOPIA takes traditional education to the next level. Its goal is to equip well-informed, proactive citizens and leaders with the skills to develop their careers confidently and enthusiastically in an ever-changing global context. These flexible and resilient professionals will be keenly aware of the need for lifelong learning and collaboration and will acquire expertise in areas such as economics, management, finance and business, while keeping sustainability—a core focus of ECOTOPIA—firmly in view.
Programme
The seven participating universities in ECOTOPIA offer a three-year programme that students take in parallel to their official undergraduate degree. Each activity on the programme is led by one of the seven universities, thus enabling students to work in international teams at university level—a rare and exciting opportunity.
A limited number of places are offered to first-year GNMI students. The selection process takes place between September and March, and admission is based on students’ academic performance and motivation for international learning.
The ECOTOPIA programme includes specific online training during the first three years of students’ undergraduate degree, plus a full year abroad during their second year. There are also two summer schools: one in Ljubljana (mandatory), at the end of the first year, designed to build a sense of community among students; and another in Rabat (optional), on the ESSEC Business School campus, at the end of the third year, focused on innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa.
While abroad, GNMI students will study mainly the same subjects they would have taken in Barcelona, including their chosen language, and will also be eligible for Erasmus+ Programme grants.
Upon completing the programme, students will receive a European certificate alongside their undergraduate degree and will have built up a Europe-wide network of contacts they can draw on throughout their lives.
