Biography

Vadim Pisarenco is currently a Genetics PhD student in the Evolutionary Genomics and Bioinformatics Group at the Universitat de Barcelona. The group centres its research on studying arachnid genomes in general and characterising spider genomes of the Dysdera genus in particular, in order to resolve different hypotheses related to how these organisms evolve.

Population Genetics and Molecular Evolution

Bachelor's Degree in Bioinformatics

Required

Programme:
Bachelor's Degree in Bioinformatics

Description

This course covers the fundamental concepts underpinning DNA and protein sequence evolution, from within populations to between species, as well as their basic applications. Subjects include the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, linkage disequilibrium and gene mapping, the coalescent theory, neutrality-based tests and phylogenetic reconstruction. It will also explore the main computer algorithms and software to understand the patterns and process underlying DNA (and protein) sequence evolution, as well as to build phylogenetic trees.
