Description
Concepts of visual design and data metaphors. Colour spaces. Bit maps and vector graphs (PostScript, SVG). 2D & 3D rendering. Processing programming language. Graph grammar (R, ggplot). Visualising data in bioinformatics: annotation of genomes and browsers; structure of visualisers; tools for manipulating networks. Hive plots. Graphics libraries.

Marta Coronado

Marta Coronado is a postdoc at the Institut de Biologia Evolutiva (IBE, UPF-CSIC) as a member of the Evolutionary and Functional Genomics research group, where she investigates the role of mobile elements in the adaptation of D. melanogaster natural populations. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics and an MSc in Bioinformatics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she currently teaches classes at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology.

José Francisco Sánchez works as a bioinformatics technician in the Genomics and Bioinformatics Unit at IGTP carrying out analysis and research projects (genomics, transcriptomes, epigenetics, etc.) for different researchers and users. He uses programming languages (Python, R, Shell) in Linux/Mac/Windows environments and computer clusters. He is also an associate lecturer at the UAB, where he teaches classes on genetics, genomics and bioinformatics, and a course instructor and mentor for the Joint Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and the Universitat de Barcelona.
