Biography
Gabriel Valiente teaches programming and algorithms in computational biology and bioinformatics. His research centres on computing methods for solving algorithmic problems that arise in computational biology and bioinformatics. He has worked on research projects on phylogenetic reconstruction, biochemical network analysis and metagenomic data analysis, among others. His main research interest is currently is solving problems in computational biology and bioinformatics through integer programming.

These two courses cover the basics of algorithms and data structures, with emphasis on fundamental algorithms and basic control structures and applications. We will focus mainly on the imperative paradigm and introduce object-oriented design. The main programming language will be Python, although we will also use C++ to discuss implementation aspects and efficiency.
