Biography
Juanjo Rué holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Mathematics (2005) and Telecommunications Engineering (2007) and a PhD in Mathematics (2009) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the École Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France) between 2009 and 2010 and at ICMAT Madrid from 2010 to 2013. Between 2013 and 2016 he was a W1 lecturer at the Freie Universität Berlin, before becoming a senior lecturer at the Department of Mathematics at UPC. His research centres on discrete mathematics in the areas of enumerative combinatorics and additive number theory, a field of research in which he has supervised four PhD theses.

This course looks at the main optimisation tools used in numerical mathematics, from the point of view of both continuous and discrete problems. This calls for a deep understanding of graphs and combinatorial problems.
