Biography

lecturer at the Department of Computer Science at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where he runs the Complexity and Quantitative Linguistics Lab and teaches classes in Information Retrieval, Big Data Search and Analysis, Computing and Intelligent Systems.

His research is based on quantitative linguistics (statistical analysis of language) and builds on developments in information theory and network theory, with particular focus on human language, animal communication and genomes. One of his main lines of research explores the parallels between human language and forms of communication found in other species.
