Biography

Miquel Àngel Senar Rosell has a PhD in Computing from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he has been a professor since 2007. His teaching centres on computer architecture and high-performance computing; his research focuses on areas linked to the use of parallel and/or distributed computing systems and their effective use in different fields of science, with particular interest in NGS-based genome studies.

Description

This course covers concepts of parallel processing: parallel architectures and programming models, shared memory and message transmission. Identifying parallels in applications, synchronisation methods, dependency analysis, task programming, collective communication and operations, parallel I/O. It shows students how to measure performance and energy consumption in parallel applications. Tools, programming languages, libraries and macros.
