BDBI Talks | Biomedical Data Science: Prediction is Better than Cure
Día:
03.10.2022
Hora: 11:30 AM
Lugar: Conference Room (ESCI-UPF building)
Every year, the students attending Introduction to Bioinformatics have the opportunity to listen to different experts working in the Bioinformatics field to get in touch with the applications and the future challenges of this computational science.
In this first session, Paula Petrone, associate professor and Biomedical Data Science team leader at ISGlobal, will explain her experience as a data scientist working on biomedical topics. In addition, she will share some general impressions of the academic, industrial and entrepreneurial environment and the opportunities and challenges in each area.
The conference will also be streamed on ESCI-UPF Youtube’s channel:
Paula Petrone holds a PhD in Biophysics from Stanford University and currently leads the Biomedical Data Science team at ISGlobal. She is also a digital health startup consultant, mentor and activist on ethics and diversity issues in STEM careers and helps organise the Women in Data Science Barcelona.
Petrone’s postdoc was dedicated to brain image processing to predict Alzheimer’s disease at the Barcelona Brain Research Center. She has also worked in the pharmaceutical sector, developing machine learning methodologies to find new drugs.
The talk is addressed to first-year students who attend the Introduction to Bioinformatics course, although it is also open to all of the ESCI-UPF community.
