BDBI Talks | Transcriptomics: from microarrays to spatial transcriptomics
Día:
03.11.2022
Hora: 11:30 AM
Lugar: Conference room (ESCI-UPF building)
Every year, the students attending Introduction to Bioinformatics have the opportunity to listen to different experts working in the Bioinformatics field to get in touch with the applications and the future challenges of this computational science.
In this new session, Lara Nonell, Bioinformatics Unit group leader of Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), will share her experience as a researcher and explain different transcriptomics techniques and their applications within biomedical science and personalized medicine.
The conference will also be streamed on ESCI-UPF Youtube’s channel:
Lara Nonell holds a PhD in Biomedicine on omics data modelling from Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Before doing her doctorate, she studied for a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and did a master’s in Information Technology Management.
Currently, she is the group leader of VHIO’s Bioinformatics Unit and associate professor at UVIC’s Biosciences Department. Her group analyses mainly genomic data and integrates it (multi-omics) to support VHIO’s research. One of the main goals of her team is to identificate and validate the biomarkers to be used in cancer diagnostics, with a particular interest in machine-learning techniques.
The talk is addressed to first-year students who attend the Introduction to Bioinformatics course, although it is also open to all of the ESCI-UPF community.
