BDBI Talks | Future Challenges of Bioinformatics in the Large-scale Era
Día:
07.11.2022
Hora: 12:30 h
Lugar: Conference Room (ESCI-UPF building)
Every year, the students attending Introduction to Bioinformatics have the opportunity to listen to different experts working in the Bioinformatics field to get in touch with the applications and the future challenges of this computational science.
In this new session, Cédric Notredame, group leader at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), will talk about sequence analysis in evolutionary biology and how its multiple sequence alignment methods have progressed through better data integration and improved algorithms. He will also present the workflow language Nextflow and the results his group has achieved using the Alfa Fold 2 algorithm.
The conference will also be streamed on ESCI-UPF Youtube’s channel:
Cédric Notredame is a molecular biologist and holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from EMBL-EBI. Since 2007 is the senior group leader in the Bioinformatics and Genomics Programme at the CRG.
The main focus of the group is the development of novel algorithms for the comparison of multiple biological sequences. Its goal is to extend this scope by allowing comparisons based on any relevant biological signal to serve two purposes: producing better models and improving the understanding of the evolutionary processes.
Notredame is also the leading author of T-Coffee, a popular multiple-sequence alignment package able to combine structural information and sequences.
The talk is addressed to first-year students who attend the Introduction to Bioinformatics course, although it is also open to all of the ESCI-UPF community.
