Building More Resilient Supply Chains

Día: 20.02.2024

Lugar: ESCI-UPF Conference Room

Building more resilient supply chains is paramount in today's interconnected global economy. As we have seen in the last few years, natural disasters, geopolitical tensions, and global pandemics can put the global markets’ logistics at risk. To name a couple, the US-China trade war and COVID-19 put the supply chain at the centre of the global conversation, making it not just a strategic imperative but a cornerstone of success in the dynamic landscape of international business.

To discuss the key factors driving governments and companies to seek more resilient supply chains, ESCI-UPF and the US Consulate General in Barcelona organize a conference with Professor Mary E. Lovely, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics at Washington D.C.

In her talk, prof. Lovely will provide an overview of the Biden Administration's efforts to alter American sourcing using reshoring, friendshoring, and de-risking tools, including the new turn toward industrial policy and more restrictive trade measures. The debate will also focus on the implications of this changing policy environment for US trading partners.

The talk is open to the entire ESCI-UPF community. If you are interested in assisting, please fill out the following form:

Prof. Mary E. Lovely earned her PhD in economics at the University of Michigan. She served as the 2022 Carnegie Chair in US-China Relations with the Kluge Center at the Library of Congress. She is also professor emeritus of Economics at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Her current research projects investigate the effect of China's foreign direct investment policies on trade flows and entry mode, strategic reform of US tariffs on China, and recent movements in global supply chains.
